Banquet Table for the Mature in Christ
Good morning I am discerning life speaker!
Scripture used last night in bible study, so it pricked my heart to use it for today’s devotional. Hebrews 5:13-14 “For everyone who lives on milk is [doctrinally inexperienced and] unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a spiritual infant. 14 But solid food is for the [spiritually] mature, whose senses are trained by practice to DISTINGUISH between what is morally good and what is evil.”
14But solid food belongs to those who are [a]of full age, that is, those who by reason of [b]use have their senses exercised to DISCERN both good and evil. NKJV Maturity knows good from evil. Maturity can tell the difference between a correct use of Scripture and a mistaken one. Maturity can recognize temptation before it traps you. Nothing is wrong with being on milk, because we all have to become mature, learn and grow in the word of God and His ways. The problem comes in when we desire to stay on milk and not change, nor want to grow up.
How can spiritual growth take place if you have an unwillingness to learn or you are unteachable?
Let’s look at the table for a minute. You have a FEAST at the table, a nice big banquet, with all the delicacy, meat and trimmings you can think of, then you have another table with pureed food and milk. Well of course we all want to jump into the table that has the various meats and delicacies that we love to eat, without understanding we won’t be able to digest that food without first learning how to digest the milk and pureed food. You can think about a baby. A baby does not go straight to eating a burger or fry, but they start with milk, cereal, baby food and move their way up to digesting other foods.
We have to understand that it is a process to grow in the Lord and take the time to learn, apply, understand His word and ways and then we begin to mature in the things of the kingdom. So don’t run to the banquet table and skip a part of the process, because the digestion process will not be a pleasing one.
I encourage you this morning to get intimate with the Father, so that you know His voice, His ways, and ask to have His mind and heart.
Have an amazing day!
