It's a Promise...

It’s a promise….

“Children obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with promise; that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.” Ephesians 6:1-3 NKJV

It’s a promise and it has not gone anywhere. Christ came to fulfill the law and the promises still stand. There is a difference between obeying and honoring. While a child is still under your roof, living in your house there should be an understanding to do as one is told. As believers it’s important to live a life where we are not just telling them what to do, but also living out what we speak.

Now once a child becomes an adult they should HONOR their mother and father which means to RESPECT and LOVE. Obeying your parents while in the home, but HONOR your mother and father is for a lifetime.

Children grow into adults, there is no stopping that. It’s hard sometimes to see that as mother and father, because we want to remain the parent. The parent raises and takes care of a child, but an adult takes what they have learned from home and now matures into adulthood. We are still mother and father but the parenting role no more.

It’s important that all roles are respected because God placed each of us in the lives of one another for purpose. So I encourage you today to forgive and to allow God to restore you. It’s never too late to change. You may not have your birth mother and/or father today, but maybe God has blessed you to have spiritual mother/father then honor, respect and love them.
