Do Not Be Drunk!
Good morning I am Walking in Wisdom Life Speaker!
“Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is, And do NOT BE DRUNK with wine, in which is dissipation but be filled with the Spirit….” Ephesians 5:17-18
I hear it all the time “the bible doesn’t say we cannot drink….and Jesus turned water into wine….” No one is condemning you from having a drink. The word says, DO NOT BE DRUNK!
Although the Bible never says that alcohol itself is sinful, it does say many times that drunkenness is a sin. God says, "Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit." (Ephesians 5:6) In fact, there are many verses in the Bible which speak out against drunkenness. Romans 13:13; Galatians 5:19-21; 1 Peter 4:3.)
God explains in Romans 14 and 1 Corinthians 8 that we should be considerate of other Christians who have different convictions than we do. Some Christians believe that alcohol is always sinful. And their convictions should be respected. (Romans 14:15-21)
Paul explained in 1 Corinthians 9 that even though he was allowed to eat and drink anything he wanted, he was very careful not to do things that would hinder the gospel of Christ.
Paul told Timothy, "Stop drinking only water and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illness." (1 Timothy 5:23) Jesus’ first miracle involved turning water into wine for a wedding celebration. (John 2:3-11)
Be wise about how you celebrate, how your appearance is to others that may not believe the same as you, also how your behavior may be in front of someone who is a recovering alcoholic, be wise in drinking when it’s your time to deliver or preach the gospel, be wise; be wise; be wise. Excess of anything can be a bad thing.
